Education Tips

Learning new things together

We should face the truth. Even if we are thoroughly convinced that violence is not the way to go concerning education, it could happen from time to time, that we react in a wrong way. Maybe like to bawl at our dogs, childs or partner - because of we are under stress.

Perhaps we will loose control and strike at someone, also if we feel sorry for what we´ve done in the same moment. This is a fact we should accept. Until a special grade our education and the expectancy of the society does form each of us, even if we recognised the nonsense of some old norm. It is a fact that we make mistakes by trying something new, but it should not stop us to go on and look out for the right track. Start step by step.

Try to teach your dog a new game - playing dead dog or to sit up and beg on a log, for instance. The more funny the lesson is, the less you will be under pressure to do well, because of you´re not willing to make a show of it. The best way to train is without audience, so you´ll  have a better concentration on what you are going to work out. Please, try to teach your dog only when you´re in a good mood and when you´re relaxed. If it doesn´t work, please think about what it could have been and try to make it better next time. Your aim is not the new trick, but the betterment of your ability to make your dog understood by yourself, also to have fun with those lessons.

A better and more cheerful obedience and the appreciation of this through others, are supporting products, coming unnoticed with time.

Have a try! Even when your dog does master near all important things, or if your dog is older. To learn something new together will give a better relationship between you and your dog, does train his mind as well as it works against boredom and senescence, at humans and dogs.

When education begins

You happily carried your new family member home. You took it to your vet to take care that it is fine. And certainly you got some good advise concerning its care and feeding. So here comes the most important question:

"When should we start the education?" Right now? Some days later, when the dog has settled in? In the age of six months? Or when the dog is one year old?

What ever your decision or answer will be, it is all wrong. You have started education long ago. Your relationship to the dog and therefore also his education started right in that moment, when you´ve taken him over. Since this first moment, he is watching you, your family and the new surroundings.

........ and he is learning. All the time and real quick, maybe you don´t recognise this the first time. He is learning easily. His brain is still developing. Nerv cells come into being and grow together. It becomes a more and more closely woven net of connected nerves. The number of conections is depending on the number and variety of sensory perceptions, the dog does digest at this time. If he does grow up in an isolated boring environment without any contact to other people or dogs, without the ability to see or feel many different things - to smell, to hear, to explore - than his brain will not develop optimal. By playing, the puppy does learn to coordinate his movement and to improve his social behaviour, by playing he does learn! He does train his muscles as well as his brain. The more you keep yourself busy with him, the more change and encouragement you offer to him, the more you teach him, the easier and quicker he will learn. Your ability to make him understood by yourself will become better and better, also your relationship to each other. This can be realised, only if you share your life with your dog. That he can be together with us for hours a day, to let relationship grow. If we call this mixed group "pack" or "family", this is a matter of taste, there is no difference. The main thing is, that the dog himself as an social creature does need such a group to live a good life. It´s like that, we refuse him the ability to live his life in a original pack community, so we should offer the dog a "human pack".

The principle of survival

Behaviour does serve to survive. Everything affecting the chance of survival of an individual, its descendants or its species must be avoid. If I hurt the dog or give him moments full of fear, pain or physical aches, through his daily life with me or during training or education, then I destroy the basic of a trustful relationship. Brutality will make a "robot" out of our dog. He will "work" or submit himself to us, just to safe his own life. If the worst comes to the worst the dog will maybe have a breakdown, caused by an anxiety neurosis or something else, and does change into a shaking picture of misery. Or he will get used to this aches and fear and maybe strike back one day equally. Not because of vindictiveness or any moral principles, but because of we destroyed him psychical.

The most animals and people we educate and control with this system of threat and punishment, will survive in half a good condition. Near 85% build this group of "robots". This "success experience" did guarantee the continued existence of the well-tried educational methods. An industrial production method does produce 15% waste. Concerning this number of waste, people think about new methods or a betterment.

So should´nt we be more demanding if the subject is not a screw or a bolt, but a living being?!
